ELO – Fábrica Nacional de Material Automóvel, SA., founded in 1965.
The activity started on leased installations in the Municipality of Seixal, on the south margin of Tejo river. ELO began by producing Conventional Leaf Springs and U-Bolts for the Automobile Industry.
In 1968 Comendador Mr. João Francisco Justino and his brothers acquired the totality of the shares of ELO. In this time the dynamic of the company was changed and it started supplying the great majority of the assembly lines for the automobile industry in Portugal.
With the demand and consequent production increase, in 1980 it was decided to built a new plant, which was concluded in 1982 in the same Municipality of Seixal, about 15 km from Lisboa.
Presently the ELO installations occupy a covered area of 9.086 m2 on a total of 15.944 m2 of land.
It was in 1983, that ELO began exporting its products, due to the economic crisis and the unexpected closing of assembly lines for cars Portugal.
The export remains the main outlet for its products, representing in 2008 near 82% of the total Sales volume.
ELO was not indifferent to the evolution and development occurred in the European automotive sector, investing in new equipment and new technologies and implementing a Quality Assurance System in accordance with Norm NP EN ISO 9001:1995 and obtained the certification in the year 2000, which enabled it to develop a more efficient production structure and entry into new export markets, particularly in the first equipment.
In the year 2002, following the continuous improvement of the Company and seeking to achieve the maximum satisfaction of its customers, ELO made the transition of its system of management of the Quality and was certified in agreement with the Norm NP EN ISO 9001:2000.
It is foreseen during 2009 the certification in accordance with the Norm NP EN ISO 9001:2008.
Currently we produce Springs and Leaf Springs, for Conventional, Parabolic and Pneumatic and U-Bolts for the Automobile Industry, with an installed production capacity of 7.000 tonnes per year.
Our largest customers are: Rifag (WINKLER), Trenkamp (GIGANT), BPW in Germany, Santana Motor / Iveco in Spain and Leiriaços which is the representative and distributor for ELO in Portugal.
ELO has about 100 employees, qualified and experienced, divided amongst workers, supervisors and managers.
The capital of the Company is € 1,800,000, being the majority shareholder Comendador Mr. João Francisco Justino.
